SHOP ADRIAN PEARSALL HIGHBACK SWIVEL LOUNGE CHAIR
This highback swivel lounge chair was designed by Adrian Pearsall and produced by Craft Associates in the USA during the 1960s. The walnut base swivels beneath a tall, dramatically curved fabric-upholstered shell, giving the chair the sculptural presence Pearsall's designs are known for — a striking accent piece for a living room or reading corner.
A Sculptural Addition to Mid-Century Interiors
The tall profile and curved silhouette of this highback swivel lounge chair give it a distinctive presence without requiring an overly decorated setting. Its form can complement streamlined case pieces, elegant credenzas, low tables, and mid-century modern benches, creating contrast while preserving the proportions associated with mid-century interiors.
The Design Legacy of Adrian Pearsall
Adrian Pearsall became known for expressive seating that combined generous proportions with strong visual character. This highback swivel lounge chair reflects that approach through its enveloping form and sculptural profile. This is a compelling choice for buyers who appreciate original American mid-century design.

Frequently Asked Questions
How can I style a vintage Pearsall chair without making a room look dated?
Balance is key. Pairing an expressive vintage chair with simpler modern furnishings or clean architectural details can make the contrast feel intentional. You can also repeat one element, such as wood or a complementary upholstery tone, elsewhere in the room to create visual continuity.
Where can a highback lounge chair work best?
A highback chair works particularly well when you want to define a seating area within a larger room, like a reading spot or an accent beside a sofa.
What makes Pearsall seating visually distinctive?
Pearsall's seating is often associated with bold proportions and curved forms. Rather than relying solely on ornament, his designs use shape and scale to create visual interest, which makes his work particularly suitable for interiors where one piece is intended to become a focal point.
What should I look for when buying vintage designer furniture?
Look beyond the designer's name and consider provenance, condition, materials, dimensions, and overall construction. Look at photographs and ask specific questions about the piece can provide additional context.
