This side table was designed by Holger Georg Jensen and produced by Kubus in Denmark during the 1960s. The teak top sits above a lower rack, adding a second surface for books or storage while keeping the piece light and open. A practical accent table for a living room or beside a sofa or armchair.

Teak Side Table With Lower Rack by Holger Georg Jensen, 1960s
Two Surfaces, One Footprint
Side tables usually force a choice. Either the top stays clear and everything else goes on the floor, or the top fills up and nothing gets set down at all.
A teak side table with a lower rack settles that by stacking storage rather than spreading it. The rack takes what accumulates without demanding more floor space, which matters most in the places a side table actually goes, beside a chair in a corner or against a wall in a narrow room.
Jensen worked for Kubus rather than the larger cabinetmakers, and pieces carrying that mark surface less often than those from the household Danish names. Mid Century Møbler imports European furniture from Denmark several times a year, and smaller occasional tables tend to leave the floor faster than the case pieces they sit beside.

FAQs
How much does the lower rack actually hold?
Enough to matter without becoming a shelf. Open racks stay tidy because nothing hides, which is the opposite of a drawer. Overloading one defeats the design, since the visual lightness comes from seeing through the piece rather than around it.
Does it work as a nightstand?
It can, and the height suits most beds. The open rack means whatever sits there is on display, so it favors a bedroom kept relatively spare rather than one where everything gets pushed out of sight.
Will teak this old take daily use?
Yes. Teak was chosen in Denmark for exactly that, and a piece already through several decades of household life has proven the point. Oil it occasionally and keep it out of direct afternoon sun.
Are there matching tables available?
Not from this design, but several other Danish side tables are on the floor, including pairs. Ask us what is currently in the showroom if symmetry matters.
